Dr. Kelly Brown

Dr. Kelly Brown is an Associate Professor at Lamar University's Center for Doctoral Studies in Educational Leadership. Alongside her academic work, Dr. Brown is also an author, consultant, wife, and mother of four daughters. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a teacher and administrator in K12 schools in the Houston area. Thanks to her hands-on experience, Dr. Brown is passionate about creating systemic changes that support underserved students. Her research focuses on community-engaged practices that promote equity and improve school systems to serve marginalized students and their families better.

Dr. Brown supports her doctoral students' research by leveraging solution-focused practices through publications and presentations. Her work with students earned her the TCPEA Advocate of the Year award. At Lamar University, she was recognized as a Trailblazing Woman of LU and Inspirational Woman of the Year. ASCD acknowledged her as a champion of education in 2023.

Dr. Brown has published three edited books and numerous articles that address leadership and equity in the school system. She also supports the field through her service work at organizations like AERA and ASCD. She has also served on the board of TCPEA, ICPEL, and JCEL as an editorial board member.
